Winter hiking in Tyrol means experiencing the cold season consciously and entirely at your own pace. Away from the ski slopes, a magical winter landscape unfolds – one that offers quiet, space, and genuine connection with the mountains. As you explore roughly 250 kilometres of winter hiking paths, all groomed and clearly signposted, you’ll breathe crisp mountain air and enjoy being out in nature – exactly as it suits you.

In the Ötztal Nature Park, winter reveals itself in its most authentic form. Let your attention shift away from daily life and towards the natural world. Snow-covered forests and tranquil spots invite you to find stillness and gather fresh energy.

Around the Alpinhotel Post, varied routes await hikers of different abilities. The so-called Venter Runde (not to be confused with the multi-day high-altitude tour) gently loops around the village. Starting from the church, this easy path offers lovely views of the winter surroundings.

Another relaxed option leads you from Vent to the Rofenhöfe. The route passes through peaceful winter scenery to a grouping of historic mountain farmsteads – amongst the oldest continuously inhabited farms in Austria. Perhaps a stop for refreshments at the Gasthof Rofenhof is in order?

For something rather more energetic, try the hike to Stallwiesalm near Sölden. Even in winter, it’s a wonderfully sunny destination, though the mountain hut itself is closed during this season.

A particularly quiet spot is the Pestkapelle near Längenfeld – a chapel steeped in history, tucked away in the forest. If you wish, combine the walk with a detour along the Fischbach stream.
