Ice climbing in Vent
For anyone seeking adventure
Looking for a winter experience that’s a little out of the ordinary? Vent, our mountain village at 1,900 metres above sea level, will open your eyes to the fascinating vertical world of ice climbing.
In Ötztal, the waterfalls freeze into impressive natural sculptures. These ice formations offer climbing adventurers an extraordinary playground – from easy introductory routes to challenging lines for experienced ice climbers.
At the Natur- & Alpinhotel Post, you are in easy reach of the region’s most beautiful ice climbing areas. Experienced, mountain-loving guides are available to introduce you to this special discipline. Whether you’re a curious beginner or an experienced climber, these walls of ice offer routes to suit every level.
In Vent, our nearest frozen waterfall is the Inner Ötztal/Ripflar. An easy to moderately difficult climb, it is located right next to the bridge on the road between Heiligkreuz and Winterstall. The ice gleams in shades of blue and white, creating a stunning backdrop for your ascent. You can also try top-rope climbing here. The route on this icefall climbs from 1,690 to 1,750 metres above sea level.
And that’s just the beginning: the surrounding area offers many more ice climbing routes, such as the Inner Ötztal/Bockgartenfall, the Sölden/Wildmoosfall, the Längenfeld/Taufenbachfall, and many others.
Ice climbing in Vent means experiencing an entirely new side of winter. The crunch of crampons on ice, the rhythmic bite of your ice axes in the frozen wall, the view of snow-covered peaks – every climb is a true winter adventure. And after your time on the ice, coming home to the warmth of our hotel feels all the more delightful. Relax in our sauna village, recharge in our indoor pool – our little “mountain lake” – and then savour the culinary delights in our restaurant.
In Vent, ice climbing is more than just a sport: it’s an intense encounter with the raw wildness of winter, an experience that inspires you and awakens your appetite for new challenges. Ready to discover the vertical ice world of Vent? We’d love to welcome you for your next winter adventure.
