For example, there’s Mt Wildspitze, Austria’s second-highest mountain at 3,774 metres high. Mt Similaun, Mt Fineilspitze, and Mt Wildes Mannle. The Similaun mountain hut, which is run by our family, and another seven mountain huts in the surrounding area. Or the panoramic Ramolalm pasture and Mt Feldkögele. The transhumance:
UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage
Each year in June and September, Vent bears witness to an extraordinary spectacle: the transhumance. The droving of sheep from South Tyrol’s Val Senales/Schnalstal to Vent in Ötztal is a centuries-old tradition. In early summer, the farmers of Val Senales/Schnalstal and their some 2,000 sheep set off on the demanding, two-day walk over the main Alpine ridge to their grazing grounds above Vent. In September, the livestock are then driven back over the snowfields and steep ridges of rock and ice to Val Senales/Schnalstal. This fascinating tradition has belonged to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2019 and is a unique experience that is a real must-see during your summer holiday in Ötztal.
