Our hotel in the Ötztal and the man from the ice
Hiking on the trails of Ötzi the iceman
Our hotel in the Ötztal and the man from the ice – an inseparable story. Follow Ötzi’s footsteps and travel back to the Neolithic Age.
The discovery of the glacier mummy caused a worldwide sensation in 1991 – and in our hotel in the Ötztal. Our late father Luis Pirpamer was one of the first ones onsite when Ötzi was discovered. Today, a small memorial commemorates the accidental discovery that turned out to be an archaeological sensation. From our hotel in Vent, you can easily hike to the Similiaun mountain hut and from there to the spot where Ötzi the iceman was found. Another highlight for young and old is the Ötzi village in Umhausen, located about 40 minutes’ drive from our hotel in the Ötztal. The archaeological outdoor park, which will open its doors again on the 1st May 2018, gives you an insight into the everyday life of the Neolithic Age.
In addition to guided tours for children, the village offers adventurous stone-age days for children on Wednesdays from mid-July to mid-December. How about a small detour to our charming hotel in the Ötztal? In Vent, you will find another archaeological excavation site from the Stone Age. The Hohle Stein at 2,050 metres, which served as a hunter- and herder station. Have we aroused your curiosity? Visit us and we will gladly tell you what else you should not miss during your holiday in the Ötztal!
