Gratitude for the gifts of the earth

Do you know about the Austrian harvest festival? We reveal the background to this centuries-old tradition.
Every year on the first Sunday in October (depending on the village), we thank the earth for its gifts and celebrate the end of the harvest season. Although it is a Catholic tradition, the harvest festival also has a secular element: In the past, a rich harvest was even more important for the population than it is today as as it decided how hard the upcoming winter would be for the farmers. Until the Middle Ages, these farmers also had to hand over a substantial part of their harvest to landowners. This was commemorated in the past, as it is today, by a harvest crown made from ears of corn bound together. Perhaps you can discover the crown during your autumnal break in Vent.
Gratitude for high-quality food is also a priority at our hotel in Vent. We rely almost exclusively on regional products, such as meat products from our own production. As a member of the “Bewusst Tirol” sustainability project to encourage use of regional products, we are committed to sustainably strengthening agriculture. You can look forward to pure enjoyment during your autumn holiday at one of the best Austrian Alps hotels in Ötztal.
