Passion for the mountains:

our favourite tours

We’ve loved the Ötztal mountains our whole lives, which is why we spend every free minute in the unspoilt nature around Vent. Every hike, mountain tour, and summit adventure holds its very own charm for us, and it’s hard for us to choose our favourites. But we’ve done it for you – so that you can experience the wonder of our wild mountain world through the eyes of passionate Vent locals.

Highlight tour:

via Similaun hut to Ötzi’s discovery site

See the place where the famous iceman  lay for more than 5,300 years – accompanied by awe-inspiring views and high-Alpine charm. From Vent, you can hike there via Martin Busch hut (2,501m) to Niederjoch pass and then walk up to Similaun hut at 3,019 metres above sea level, which has been owned by our family for many years and is run by Markus Pirpamer and his wife Ulli. From there, you can reach Ötzi’s discovery site on Tisenjoch on a marked trail secured by ropes. Leo and Thomas, two of the three qualified mountain and ski guides in our family, will (upon request and for a fee) be happy to accompany you to the world-famous discovery site at some 3,210 metres above sea level, 3,606m Mt Similaun, or 3,514m Mt Fineilspitze.

Walking time: 4.5 hours to Similaun hut, another 1.5 hours to Ötzi’s discovery site

To Breslauer hut

An enjoyable high-mountain tour takes you to Breslauer hut, which is located at 2,844 metres above sea level beneath Mt Wildspitze. It’s the perfect starting point for a tour to the summit of Austria’s second-highest mountain as well as for numerous other spectacular mountain and high-altitude tours, such as the Rofenkar glacier, just 45 minutes away, up Mt Wildes Mannle or Mt Hinterer Brochkogel, or to Vernagt hut or Braunschweiger hut. Breslauer hut offers space for 160 overnight guests and delights with an impressive panorama of the surrounding mountains, which is especially enchanting when lit by the alpenglow in the evening. You can reach the hut from Vent in around three hours or – if you want to save energy – in just 1.5 hours by taking the chair lift to Stableinalm. As it takes four hours to get from Breslauer hut to the summit of Mt Wildspitze, we recommend staying overnight.

Opening times: from mid-June to end of September
Walking time: 3 hours to Breslauer hut, another 4 hours to Mt Wildspitze

Mt Mutsbühel and Ramolalm

Ramolalm hut, which is no longer catered, sits at some 2,330 metres above sea level high above Vent and impresses thanks to its legendary mountain panorama from Mt Similaun over Mt Talleitspitze to the famous Mt Wildspitze. On the ascent, first take the “Rund um Vent” (Around Vent) hiking trail and then turn onto the gently ascending trail above the Gampen lift through the dense, mystical pine forest. After leaving the forest, the trail becomes much steeper and leads up to Mt Mutsbühel, where you can experience the high-Alpine flora in all its beauty and powerful colour. Afterwards, continue past rugged rock faces through lush, green pastures until you reach Ramolalm, where you can soak up the wonderful peace before descending back to Vent.

Walking time: approx. 4 – 5 hours

Summit tour up Mt Wildes Mannle

The fantastic mountain tour up Mt Wildes Mannle rewards you not only with summit bliss, but also with a priceless view over Mt Wildspitze and the area’s other 3,000m peaks. Eager hikers can take the trail marked “Breslauer Hütte” to the Stablein mountain station of the Wildspitz lift, while those who prefer a more leisurely pace can take the lift to get there. Above the mountain station, turn right into the “Wildes Mannle” fork, which takes you over steep, rocky terrain, some of which is secured, to the summit at 3,023m above sea level. You then descend via the small col to the tongue of the Rofenkarferner glacier and continue from there to the “Stablein” panoramic restaurant. You can then return to Vent by lift or on foot.

Walking time: 5 hours

Hike up Mt Feldkögele

At 2,020 metres high, Mt Feldkögele is only 120 metres higher than our traditional mountaineering village. The easy hike begins at the church in Vent village centre. From there, follow the road to Zwieselstein, turn left at Weissenbach river, and then enjoy a walk through an idyllic larch forest to your destination.

Walking time: 2 hours to Mt Feldkögele

To Hochjoch Hospiz hut

If you’d like to enjoy a rustic mountain hut near Vent, this is the perfect choice: Hochjoch Hospiz hut at 2,413 metres above sea level. The original mountain refuge was built on the opposite side of the valley between 1869 and 1872 at the suggestion of famous glacier priest Franz Senn. After it was damaged by avalanches several times, the hut was opened in its current form in 1927. It’s located south-west of Vent in the Ötztal Alps, just beneath Mt Guslarspitze right at the back of Rofental. The Hochjoch Hospiz hut is around a three-hour walk away from Vent. Once you’ve arrived, you can take a break to enjoy regional delicacies. If you want to head even higher, you can stay overnight in the rustic rooms and dorms and then set off for the region’s most legendary peaks the next day: Mt Fluchtkogel (3,494m) and Mt Fineilspitze (3,514m) can be reached from the hut in around four hours, while it takes around six hours to reach Mt Weisskugel (3,738m), the second-highest peak in the Ötztal Alps.

Summer opening times: from mid-June to end of September
Winter opening times: from beginning of March to end of April
Walking time: 3 hours to the hut
